Residency artist, Wynne Palmer, will be leading the first of three El Wire workshops she will be teaching through West Point Grey Community Centre this Fall! All upcoming El Wire workshops:
Oct. 23 - Halloween and Bike Decorations (3:30 - 5:30PM) "The first one is really a family event to make fun outdoor Halloween decorations and to introduce people to the concept that El Wire can keep you safer while riding your bike. It's getting darker outside now going into winter and this is an option to stay creatively illuminated and safe." Nov. 25 - 3D Lanterns (3:30 - 5:30PM) (to exhibit at Lighting of Aberthau event Nov. 26) "The second one will be a workshop where attendees will be contributing to the group project for an outdoor installation, to be exhibit at the Nov. 26 Lighting of Aberthau event. I can't wait to see what we ultimately come up with for the final install!" Dec. 6 - Christmas Ideas (11:30 - 1:30PM) "Finally, the third workshop will look at decorating inside the home for the holidays. And since decorating is part of that holiday feeling, I thought why not with El Wire?" "I look forward to these workshops, as all three will address, slightly differently, concepts in lighting with this user-friendly cold lighting source. " Please book through the community centre: http://www.westpointgrey.org/ Residency artist Wynne Palmer's work will centre around the use of various cold lighting sources, such as LED and Electroluminescent Wire, to coincide with the upcoming 2015 International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies. "Inspired by land art and after a stint working in the west coast film industry some years ago, with a wide variety of professional lighting, I became hyper aware of the nuances and atmosphere created with the conscious use of lighting in my photography and installation works." She is currently working on various projects including: light-based, nature installations on the grounds of Aberthau Mansion and a set of table top El Wire sculptures. Wynne is a Vancouver-based interdisciplinary artist, curator and producer. Her practice focuses on the liminal space where nature and technology converge, bringing into question identity, concepts of location and the philosophy of language. She is also the Assistant Administrator/Project Manager for LocoMotoArt, board member of the Interdisciplinary Media Artist Association (IMAPON), and a co-founder/member of the Vancouver Experimental Theremin Orchestra (VETO). She will be leading an upcoming BC Arts Council funded Youth Engagement Mentorship, through VIVO Media Arts Centre and leading a series of workshops with El Wire through West Point Grey Community Centre through the Fall. http://wynnepalmer.net/ |
