LocoMotoArt artists, Laura Lee Coles & Rob Scharein are excited to introduce their community engaged art project Moments of Happiness (2015-2016). Motivated with the intent to offset the negative feelings people receive from the onslaught of news reports of global violence, hardship and tragedy, the artists will ask members of the Vancouver community to think of what makes them happy and place their moments of happiness in a database. Starting in October, the artists will assemble all the contributions and create a final artwork that will be displayed at the participating community centre on March 20, 2016 IN CELEBRATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS. Participant’s can contribute in one or all three ways listed below: 1. Email the artists a photo from their cell phone which reminds them of a moment of happiness ([email protected]) 2. Write down a single word that represents happiness to them 3. Write down a short sentence that describes a memory of a happy time. The evening of July 14th twelve members of LMA gathered at McBride Field House for our Summer meeting and dinner get-together. It was a great opportunity to see all the plants in bloom from our Spring clean up and to catch up with each other as friends and community artists during some spectacular weather! The meeting was also an opportunity to plan the details of our current and upcoming Summer shows, workshops and events for our group and participating guest artists over the next several months. Please keep an eye on our Aberthau, Patterns and Workshop Pages for updates! Community members of the Kitsilano area, Cindy McMillan and Vida Mas were awarded a Neighbourhood Small Grant from the Greenest City Fund by Vancouver Foundation, via Kitsilano Neighbourhood House to plan and offer this afternoon event. Cindy and Vida organized tents, tables, goods, services, and the recycling depot. Also in the day's activities, LocoMotoArt promoted their various summer workshops and events, Rob Scharein, Dave Leith and Laura Lee Coles presented PoSSeSSiONz, an interactive sound and video installation about hoarding and consumerism. Approximately 75 - 80 people attended throughout the day, riding bikes, walking dogs, and dropping off items for the recycling depot. Here are some of the images from the day! Photos: Laura Lee Coles May 16, 2014 was clean up day for the grounds around LMA McBride Field House Studio. Artists being artists, Laura Lee Coles, Rob Scharein and Bobbi Kozinuk decided to turn what may seem a mundane activity to some, into a fun photo and video project! Enjoying the current wonderful weather, Coles photographed the plant life around McBride and Scharein created a creative time lapse video, with custom software! There will be an upcoming show at the end of May, where LMA artists will be tabling their upcoming residency workshops. Video: Rob Scharein Photography: Laura Lee Coles The early evening of May 12, 2014, LocoMotoArt, joined by Ross Moster of Village Vancouver, held an informal outdoor dinner and meeting to catch up with each other and to talk about future plans for shows, workshops and activities at both Aberthau and McBride field house studios, and through various City community centres. So far LMA artists in residency with the City of Vancouver, have provided demos, workshops, talks, shows. We have brought in guest speakers, guest artists and engaged local organizations, artist collectives and businesses. This LMA Blog has utilized Tags for all posts. To see individual artist or organization activities at either of our studios, please see both Aberthau and McBride Page links at top. Look under Categories in the right column and click on artist's name. If you would like to see activities by type of art, then please click on the term, ie generative art. We look forward to organizing and presenting more artist in residency work, introducing and working with more guest artists, collectives, lecturers and working with the very supportive administration, staff and volunteers of Aberthau Mansion, McBride and West Point Grey Community Centre. We also wish to acknowledge the ongoing support of our families, friends and wonderful sponsors: BC Hydro, Vancouver Cultural Affairs, Charqui Restaurant, CiTR 101.9FM Radio and William F.
