On November 25, 2014 residency artist Wynne Palmer conducted another Make It Glow: El Wire workshop with electroluminescent wire (El Wire) to make lanterns in conjunction with this year's Lighting of Aberthau event. This time students were quite young, 4 - 9yrs. of age, so were guided in making simple El Wire/faux stained glass-looking lanterns, using the highly reflective surfaces of tin. Wynne has been working with El Wire since early 2013 as a material in her own practice and as a creative material for all ages through her workshops. Outcomes for this workshop included: taking everyday inexpensive items, like tin baking sheets, along with other art materials, El Wire and LED lighting to make lanterns for indoor/outdoor use. Students were keen to take them home to try out for their bedroom night lights! |
