Re-envisioning the change room and urban park area at McBride Park Field House LocoMotoArt presented the work of Susi Milne, titled “Mythological Creatures”. Soft sculpture, drawing, painting, digital projections. Milne's imaginary creatures were accompanied by “Creatures Echoscape” SoundscapeComposition of Dave Leith, which evoked the imaginary environments for the fantastic creatures created by artist Susi Milne. The sounds are all from nature. One can hear lions, dolphins, birds, fish, horses and donkeys, rabbits, squirrels and frogs (and maybe more) along with wind and water.
Artist Statement Susi Milne: These creatures are the manifestation of the special and honored relationship I have with Nature and Animals. I grew up with Where the Wild Things Are. My Narnian connections saved me through my years of blessed Recovery. The Manticora has always been with me and often come straight into reality out of my dreams at the most precious times".
Avril Orloff - “Pentimento"
Avril Orloff is a graphic facilitator who literally 'draws out' people's thinking in meetings, conferences and other group processes for clients in all sectors. Using a combination of words and images, she creates a visual map of discussions as they unfold, highlighting key ideas and themes and helping the big picture to emerge. Avril’s back- ground includes 13 years as a graphic facilitator, 18 years as a graphic designer and art director, degrees in art, communication and philosophy, and training in deep listening and dialogue. In all her work, she looks for the ways that vibrant creative processes can crack open rigid ways of working and being, and allow new thoughts, ideas, patterns, and ways of relating to emerge. Recently revisiting her passion for photography, Avril has embarked on a new chapter of her creative spirit.
Artist Statement Avril Orloff:
I've always found joy in viewing the world through my camera lens. It takes me outside my head and grounds me in the world, causing me to pay close attention to things I would otherwise take for granted and helping me see the extraordinary in the ordinary. But I also see photography as a way of taking us beyond what meets the eye. Like any great piece of art, a great photograph evokes a particular feeling or atmosphere, moving the viewer from what’s in front of them to what’s inside them. If my images create that portal to “something beyond,” I’ll feel I've achieved my purpose as an artist!
