GeoPaint: Getting out in Nature by GeoPainting the Landscape
DATES & LOCATIONS TBA
Artist:  Rob Scharein

Working with Youth Camp attendees, several one-and-one-half-hour workshops will be offered at locations such as Sunset Community Centre, Moberly Park, West Point Grey Community Centre. Attendees will learn how mobile phones equipped with GPS, can be used to create gigantic walk-based artwork while enjoying a walkabout in the park. In the process they produced a “painting.” This provides youth an opportunity to experience the outdoors and using technology for creative uses rather than social media and texting.

Interwined Boundaries:
Naturalist Collages

DATES TBA

ARTIST:  Laura Lee Coles

Intertwined Boundaries
, combines walking, listening, photography, collecting found items, and creating a naturalist collage and building an interactive sound element in the collage. Those who wish to continue in the Fall, will take their collage to the next level:  an interactive framed shadow box that incorporates sensors to trigger sound by the movement of one's hand in front of the glass face of the frame.

The collage workshop is planned to be a fun way to get outdoors, experience a sound walk, and become familiar with naturalist collage art. Enjoy a meditative and contemplative afternoon steeped in nature, sound, and place. Comfortable shoes and hats are suggested.  Please bring your lunch and own beverages for a short lunch break before the walk.

Make It Glow: El Wire

DATES TBA

ARTIST:  Wynne Palmer

This workshop will explore Electroluminescent Wire (EL Wire) as an art material for 2D and 3D works. Participants will be guided through hands-on exploration with this flexible, user-friendly lighting and it’s creative use. Wynne Palmer will be getting participants started with examples of how this light wire can be used for creative objects and guiding makers in the creation of 3D lanterns. Students will walk away with a handout of local suppliers and a full description of this unique material.

WHAT IS EL WIRE?
Electroluminescent (EL) Wire emits a spectacular uniform light source, 360 degrees throughout its entire length. EL Wire is Non-Toxic, cold to the touch, very durable, and resistant to water and ice.  The battery powered control box is compact so this device is completely portable and can be used on the go and in hard to reach places. You can use this wire by bending in to shapes, letters and designs.

Old Stream Sound Walk
